之所以看这部电影是英文前段时间布克奖50年最佳小说就是这本小说“英国病人”。看完电影觉得信息太多，但主线还是相当清楚。就是凯瑟琳和爱马殊的婚外情。电影的主题是什么呢？是爱情至上吗？是歌颂这真诚热烈情投意合的爱情吗？爱情能凌驾于道德之上吗？当然不是，凯瑟琳没有为爱不顾一切，内心在激烈交战这正说明了道德的分量。道德和爱情存在一心。小说的功能并不是说教，说理而是能够真实的描写表达人的矛盾困惑和情感。“反战”才是这个故事的主旨。寄居在废弃修道院里的四个人——艾马殊、汉娜、基普和卡拉瓦乔--战争让他们失去了爱情，失去了好友失去尊严，战争让他们生活战战兢兢。战争让他们活在回忆的噩梦了也就是对战争的有力控诉。但是作者没有仅仅满足于控诉，他要进一步追问战争的原因。是什么造成了战争？是命名，是标签，是占有，是划界，是归类。ownership and boundary.正如凯瑟琳在在泳者之洞里，灯熄灭了，凯瑟琳用最后一点气力写道
