佛语英译|| 菩提本无树

两组佛家偈语，译了两稿后与大家分享。之后又修改，第三稿应为终稿。

惠能师兄神秀偈语：

身是菩提树
心如明镜台
时时勤拂拭
莫使染尘埃

 （Version 1）

Body is like a Bodhi tree.
Mind is a mirror on its stand.
Diligent wiping keeps them clean,
Free from earthly dust and sand.

 （Version 2）

Body is like a Bodhi tree
Mind is like a mirror bright
Keep them clean by constant wipe
Do not let the dust alight

 （Version 3）

Body is a Bodhi tree
Mind is like a mirror bright
Wipe with care all the time
Do not let the dust alight

六祖慧能偈语：

菩提本无树
明镜亦非台
本来无一物
何处惹尘埃

 （Version 1）

Bodhi is not a tree for real.
Mirror is not on its stand.
Empty is the world you feel.
Why bothered by dust and sand?

 （Version 2）

There is never a Bodhi tree
Nor stand of a mirror bright
Void is the world that we see
How could dust possibly alight?

 （Version 3）

There is not a Bodhi tree
Nor a stand of mirror bright
Void is the world we see
How could dust ever alight?
