Have you ever seen a critically endangered animal? Have you seen it in person? I have.
你有没有见过地球上任何一种严重濒临灭绝的动物或植物？你见过他们活生生得在你的面前吗？我见到了！
A couple weeks ago I got selected to participate in a special event. Fifty students went with me to learn about New Zealand's wildlife and fauna.
几个星期前，我有幸参加了一个特别的活动。我同五十位其他同学一起去了解了新西兰的野生物种。
We went to a very special place. Somewhere, where endangered and defenceless animals thrived and bred. Rotoroa Island.
我们去了一个非常特殊的地方。那个地方，生存着各种濒临灭绝的动植物。 这就是罗托鲁阿岛。
Beep! Beep! My alarm woke me up at 5 am. I quickly got dressed and ate breakfast.
铃铃铃，凌晨5点，闹钟准时把我叫醒。我飞快地穿好衣服，匆忙吃了早餐。
I arrived at school, pitch black. Only viewable things were the shadows and the silvery moon.
到了学校，天还是黑的。只有银色的月亮和四周被月光映着的隐约可见的剪影。
The kids and teachers were all ready to go. I joined them, and the trip to the city and from the city to the island began.
孩子们和老师们早已兴致勃勃，整装待发。大部队集合完毕，从城市到小岛的探寻之旅正式开启。
We did a biosecurity check before going on the boat, to check if our shoes had any contaminated and harmful bacteria that could lead to plants and animals dying on the island.
每位乘客在上船之前必须经过生物安全检查，确保我们的鞋子没有沾染任何可能导致岛上的生物死亡或污染的有害细菌。
The trip itself on the boat took 2 hours. The scenery was beautiful and we had some fun with the water. Once we arrived at the island we started the expedition.
2个小时的船程，一路风光旖旎，大家都开心的嬉戏！抵达小岛后，我们开始了野外考察工作。
People from The Auckland Zoo guided us and we discussed the history of the island.
来自奥克兰动物园的专业向导为我们讲诉了岛上的历史。
I learnt lots of information about how stoats and rats came to New Zealand and how they killed 85% of our native wildlife.
我们了解了很多有关白鼬和老鼠如何来到新西兰的知识，以及他们如何侵噬了85％的本土野生动物。
They originally intended to bring them to NZ (New Zealand) to kill rabbits to stop them digging holes in the farmland. Rabbits were too hard to catch for the stoats, so they targeted the more vulnerable victim, the native, flightless kiwi.
新西兰人引入白鼬的初衷是用来杀死过盛的兔子，防止兔子在农田挖洞。事与愿违，兔子跑的太快，白鼬根本抓不到，反而促使他们将目标锁定在了脆弱的本土原生物种，不会飞行的kiwi鸟身上。
People who bought the stoats to New Zealand certainly didn't want the native animals to get killed by stoats. They wanted to kill them for meat!
白鼬引入者当然不希望本地保护动物被杀害，他们恨不得生吞活剥这些白鼬。
On the other hand, the rats snuck onto the boats carrying sheep and other animals and started eating the native bird's eggs.
同时，老鼠随着运载羊群和其他动物的船只潜入新西兰，开始偷食kiwi鸟的蛋。
This all led to today where the Rotoroa Trust is protecting these animals and plants on an island that has no pests.
过去的经验教训使得今天的罗托鲁阿信托不得不选择在一个没有害虫与世隔绝的岛屿上专门保护这些濒危物种。
We went on a walk up to the highest point of the island and the scenery was breathtaking! 360 degrees of beautiful glimmering water and faint shadows of the mountain line behind.
我们一直走到岛的最高点，360度的小溪波光粼粼，映着远近高低的山川，风景秀丽叹为观止！

Along the walk, we saw some birds that were only in NZ. They all made beautiful sounds and one of them even had a fight!
沿着步道，我们看到了一些新西兰特有的鸟儿，美妙的歌唱着。其中一只居然与其它小鸟打架！漫步之后，我们吃了午餐，在美丽的海滩上玩耍。
After the long walk, we had lunch and played around on the beautiful beach. All of us gathered around back at the main hall. We all got into teams and did a GPS activity to learn to track down the animal cards and identify the animals.
午餐过后，我们所有人都聚集在主厅，并分成了不同小组，展开GPS搜寻，追踪动物卡片标识，并学习不同物种的识别。
At about 4 pm we headed home. The journey was amazing and an experience never to forget.
下午4点左右我们回到了学校，完美的奇迹之旅让我终生难忘。
During this expedition, I learnt, not only knowledge but how we can make a difference and prevent these things from happening again.
经历了这次学习考察，让我认识到，知识并不是一切，我们必须要有远见并作出改变，防止历史的悲剧重演。
To protect the animals of our world is one of the most important things in the world. If our animals are all extinct then our ancient heritage from them will be nothing to the people in the future.
保护动物是世界与大自然最重要的课题之一。如果我们的动物全部灭绝，那么我们从古到今对动植物的学习及延习将功亏一篑，对未来毫无价值。
We must keep our environments tidy and clean. Do not litter. In doing so you will preserve our environment and make it last longer for us and the animals.
请爱护我们的大自然和环境，保持整洁。我们每个人的举手之劳都将为保护环境贡献力量，并为我们人类和动物创造更长久而美好的生存空间。
