catch up on

为什么这个政客，在这里用了 catch up on 而没有用 read 呢？

我们熟悉 catch sb up on sb/sth 这个表达，这个表达的意思是：to tell someone the news of someone or something. 比如下面这个句子：

Oh, please catch me up on what your family is doing.
拜托了，告诉我你家里现在在什么？

在剧中的这句话里，显然只有一个宾语，因此是 catch up on sth 的用法，这个用法的意思和上面的这一种不一样了，它的意思是：to do whatever you have not had time to do ，也个意思在中文里没有一个词可以来对应，只能说「挤出时间做某事」，比如：

I have to catch up on my reading.
我必须得抽时间把阅读做了。

所以在剧中的这个情节，这个政客为了证明自己的清白，用了catch up on sth 这个词组，来表明自己连工作都是挤时间出来做的，怎么可能去做坏事呢？

然而，这是个谎言。

rehearse

我们熟悉 rehear，表示 hear again 的意思，那么在后面加上 se 是不是还是跟「听」这个释义有关呢？

显然不是（不然也不拿出来分享了）。

rehearse: to practice (a part in a play or a piece of music, for example) in preparation for a public performance.

所以 rehearse 的近义词是 practice，而且和演出有关，也就是说，是无关事实的。
