Register 是另一样学校老师没教过的东西。所以，有人会把学术写作中的词汇用在日常口语表达中。

如果是知道怎么区分，但想要这种风格，像是谢耳朵那么说话，无可厚非。但很多人是没有register 的意识的。

一种最简单的分法是正式，中性，非正式。大多数语言是中性的。例如submit your assignment 正式，hand in your assignment 中性。

学到的搭配：

1. Pass up the chance: to not make use of a chance to do something
   pass up a chance/opportunity/offer
   I don’t think you should pass up the opportunity to go to university

2. Be in with a chance: if a competitor is in with a chance, it is possible that they will win
   I think we’re in with a good chance of beating them.

3. Get somebody off: to go to sleep, or to help a child go to sleep
   I went to bed but couldn’t get off to sleep.
